We call our museum education programme Create, because every participant can make something themselves.
Every visitor brings an entire world of their own into the museum, and with it one of innumerable ways of looking at what is on display here. Every person sees and feels differently and something different. Our education programmes accordingly offer our visitors opportunities to enter into dialogue with us about what they have seen and experienced here: dialogue about knowledge and non-knowledge, questions and possible answers, seeing and non-seeing. One question is always at the fore: what do the objects have to do with me? When we explore the museum with this question in mind, we together discover the aspects that connect us with the exhibition themes and those themes with our everyday worlds.

Building on the exhibition On Display: How Graphic Design Shapes Us, this workshop invites participants to explore graphic design hands-on. During the session, participants will collect, cut, draw, print, combine, and reassemble elements. The focus is less on “correct” design and more on experimenting with different visual languages and exploring what emerges when we step away from familiar ways of seeing and designing.
The workshop combines inspiration from the exhibition with ample time for hands-on work. Various analog techniques – such as collage, drawing, printing, and the combination of images and text – will be introduced and can be further developed individually. Participants are welcome to bring their own themes and materials or draw inspiration from the exercises and the exhibition.

Christian Dell (1893–1974), silversmith, master craftsman at the Bauhaus, head of the metal workshop at the Frankfurt Art School and a key figure in the New Frankfurt movement, and designer of well-known lamps, including several Kaiser-Idell fixtures. He influenced a generation of artists, including Marianne Brandt and Wilhelm Wagenfeld. Nevertheless, he ranks among the lesser-known designers of the 20th century and deserves a reassessment. This comprehensive publication presents Dell’s high-quality silverware, innovative plastic designs, and lamp designs (with a catalog).
Featuring, among others, Michael Siebenbrodt, founding director of the Bauhaus Museums in Weimar and Dessau, and other authors.

Featuring Jonathan Radetz, designer, and Grit Weber, Deputy Director and Curator of Design, Art, and Media at the Museum Angewandte Kunst. On the occasion of the pop-up exhibition Shifting Objects – Shifting Values at the WDC-Hub.
The Hessian Design Award honors the work of Hessian craftspeople and designers who stand out for their exceptional design expertise. The award seeks innovative objects that bring forward-thinking ideas to life and are crafted with appropriate materials and functionality. The prize is awarded every two years by the Working Group of Hessian Chambers of Crafts (ARGE) and is financially supported by the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transportation, Housing, and Rural Affairs. In 2026, a special edition of the Hessian Design Award will take place, organized by the Frankfurt-Rhein-Main Chamber of Crafts in cooperation with World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026. As part of this special edition, designers are now eligible to participate for the first time.

Under the guidance of artist and comic illustrator Helena Baumeister and urban sketch artist Sibylle Lienhard creative people of all ages are invited this Sunday to create a lively Where’s Wally-style illustration together. Families in particular are warmly welcome to join the workshops, which are part of the participatory workshop series Democratic Favourite Places in Frankfurt, organised by Amelie Persson.
The Open Studio takes place from 2.30 to 5.30 pm. You can join at any time, depending on availability. Feel free to drop in spontaneously and join our collage workshop, explore our material and enjoy the experiment.

Throughout his life, journalist and writer Jörg Stürzebecher was a champion of design criticism and ambitious design journalism. On the occasion of the book launch for Jörg Stürzebecher – Design Reportagen, invited guests will discuss where these can be found today.
Participants include Ursula Wenzel (editor of Jörg Stürzebecher – Design Reportagen); Rike Felka (Brinkmann&Bose Publishing, Berlin); Stephan Ott (former editor-in-chief of the magazine form and longtime colleague of Jörg Stürzebecher); and Julia Kahl (co-founder and editor-in-chief of the magazine and media company Slanted). The discussion will be moderated by Jonas Deuter (curator of graphic design at the Museum Angewandte Kunst) and Grit Weber (deputy director and curator of design, art, and media at the Museum Angewandte Kunst).

Young people are exploring public spaces and developing their own ideas for how to design them. The exhibition Urban Space Research Frankfurt offers insights into the project process, showcases selected results and invites visitors to try their hand at creative experimentation.
Public space is more than just streets and squares – it is a place for encounters, movement and personal engagement. Starting with an exploration of Frankfurt, pupils from the Georg-August-Zinn-Schule and the Aktive Schule Frankfurt examined their surroundings using product design methods and performative approaches.
Through observations, spatial experiments and creative tasks, new perspectives on urban space emerged. From these diverse experiences, ideas, models and fragments developed, highlighting possibilities for shared coexistence in public space. The works invite us to take a fresh look at Frankfurt from the perspective of young people and to develop our own visions of the city.

A co-working group for female founders from Frankfurt am Main and the surrounding area who are looking for:
Connect and meet up to work together. The group usually meets once a month (mostly on the last Tuesday of the month).
How has the Stiftung Buchkunst evolved since its founding in 1966, and how has book design changed over the decades? Drawing on exhibits from the exhibition, Uta Schneider (Executive Director of the Stiftung Buchkunst from 2000 to 2012) and Ralf de Jong (Professor of Typography at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen) will speak with Birte Kreft (Executive Director of the Stiftung Buchkunst) about the foundation’s history, its evolution, and the books that have shaped this process. An open conversation about design, institutions, and the stories that books tell.

As part of the exhibition In the Mode of Seriality. Difference, Variation, and Repetition in Architecture and Design, the Frankfurt-based foundation urban future forum e.V. – the exhibition’s initiator and conceptualizer – invites the public to several accompanying lecture and discussion events. The so-called Serial Parliaments are each dedicated to an overarching thematic block and invite architects, manufacturers, politicians, and citizens to present their thoughts and positions on serial planning and production and to discuss them with the audience. The goal is to demonstrate how the (supposed) contradiction between mass production and good design can be resolved and to use examples to show that quality is compatible with the methods of industrial manufacturing.
