Born in Yokohama The Entrepreneur Werner Reimers (1888–1965) and His Asian Art Collection

25 October 2018 – 24 February 2019

Painting, sculpture, bronzes, cloisonné and jade from China and Japan: the collection of Asian objects assembled by the entrepreneur Werner Reimers (1888–1965) encompasses almost all the major branches of East Asian art and bears impressive witness to what twentieth-century Western collectors found so fascinating in Far Eastern art.

In 2016/17, in a joint research project of the Werner Reimers foundation and the Museum Angewandte Kunst, the entire collection was the subject of thorough scholarly examination.

To coincide with the publication of the complete collection catalogue, the Museum Angewandte Kunst was showing a selection of some sixty works from the Reimer holdings – for example album pages with elegant ink drawings, a limestone Buddha or an elaborately decorated jade bowl of the Ming period.
