Student exhibition at the Dieter Rams Forum

The Dieter Rams Forum was expanded to include a student exhibition: from 23 February to 23 March 2024, visitors were able to view an exhibition of concept and design drafts from the technical universities in Delft and Milan created for Braun / De’Longhi. This intercultural student project was carried out in close cooperation with lecturers from the two universities and was entitled Triangular – Cooking for what matters. The project called for concepts and ideas that not only related to new types of appliances, but also analysed what really matters when cooking. The resulting concepts took into account a wide range of aspects, from the sourcing of ingredients, preparation and cooking to circular recycling. Last but not least, the relevance of cooking as a social and cultural link was also explored.
As part of the opening of the exhibition Triangular – Cooking for what matters, a panel discussion on 23 February at 5 pm was dedicated to the topic of training designers in industrial design.

Following the panel discussion, the student exhibition Triangular – Cooking for what matters opened at the Dieter Rams Forum. Introduction and explanations of the exhibition by Marie-Claire Looze, owner of MCL Design & Ergonomics and lecturer in product design, TU Delft and Emmanuele Villani, lecturer for the Smart Design Final Synthesis Studio, Politecnico di Milano, School of Design.
The exhibition Dieter Rams. Looking Back and Ahead returned to the Museum Angewandte Kunst, Frankfurt am Main, from where the exhibition first started touring in April 2021.
It has since been on show at the Goethe Institutes in New York and Washington, at the ADI Design Museum in Milan and at the Stadtmuseum Wiesbaden, the birthplace of Dieter Rams. While back at the Museum Angewandte Kunst, it was part of a larger project. Under the title Dieter Rams Forum, photographs by his wife Ingeborg Rams that have not yet been shown to the public were on display.
Ingeborg Rams joined Braun in 1957 after an apprenticeship as a photographer in Bochum and studies at the Folkwangschule in Essen. Together with photographer Marlene Schnelle-Schneyder, she played a major role in shaping the objective style of interior and product photography. In addition to her freelance work, she also produced numerous applied photographs for the company Vitsœ, the manufacturer of Dieter Rams’ system furniture.
Dieter Rams, now 91, was and is not only concerned with his own work, but also with opportunities and fields of action for a younger generation of designers. Less but better is his credo, which has lost none of its relevance to this day. On the contrary, it has become increasingly important the more our natural living environment is worn down. The work of Dieter Rams has shown a path that can be pursued and developed further. The temporary Dieter Rams Forum at the Museum Angewandte Kunst wanted to be a platform for this, a place of encounters and knowledge transfer.
