The cabinet exhibition 亞 歐堂 meet asian art: The Awakened displays sculptures from China, Thailand, Tibet and Korea, representing one and a half millennia of Buddhist art in Asia.

The exhibited objects have been kept in the Museum Angewandte Kunst for up to eighty years. We primarily showcase stone sculptures and bronzes. In addition to life-size portraits or fragments, we also present modest testimonies to the visual culture of Buddhism, such as Chinese miniature altars from the Sui (589–618 AD) and Tang (618–907 AD) dynasties as well as small, sometimes only air-dried clay votive tablets, which are still placed in sacred places today.

Curator: Dr Stephan von der Schulenburg
