Exactly 100 years after the design of the historic Frankfurt Kitchen by Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky, the
exhibition Triangular. New Frankfurt Kitchen 2040 presents visionary design concepts for future living centered around food and meal preparation. International design students from Politecnico di Milano, Delft University of Technology, and İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi, in collaboration with De’Longhi Braun Household GmbH and the rams foundation, have developed groundbreaking models, prototypes, and short films. The exhibition is an official contribution to World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 and is on display at the Museum Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt.
The exhibition focuses on the students and their works. The young talents offer tangible visions for
functional, accessible, and sustainable concepts of the future. They present not only forward-looking
kitchen concepts, but also innovative household products and objects closely tied to food production,
preparation, and consumption. The cultural differences and diverse backgrounds of students from Italy, the Netherlands, and Türkiye deeply influence their designs but at the same time, several concepts build on the same foundation or very similar future scenarios.
A total of 21 pioneering works are being displayed with models and prototypes. An additional 30 concepts are presented as short films created by the students themselves.
To focus on innovative power, the designs consciously break away from the classic spatial concept.
They align with global megatrends and are structured into four key pillars:
Economy
The kitchen intelligently adapts to smaller living spaces, focusing on the essential practices
of cooking to maximize value from minimal resources.
Society
It becomes a space for deceleration and community, fostering sustainable habits as well as social
cohesion in a fast-paced era.
Humanity
The human experience takes center stage once again; products act as meaningful companions
rather than machines designed solely for efficiency.
Culture
The kitchen reflects the cultural diversity of a connected world, integrating a wide variety of
cooking practices and celebrating the sharing of identities and traditions.
The Triangular project is a collaboration between De’Longhi Braun Household GmbH, the rams foundation, and the three renowned design universities: Politecnico di Milano – Scuola del Design, Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), and İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi (ITÜ).
