Exhibition
27 April 2013 - 22 June 2014
It is the age of Galileo Galilei and Johannes Kepler, of geographic discoveries and technical progress, of religious conflicts and European expansions, and new concepts in philosophy and science.
An atmosphere of new departure prevails, international trade relations flourish, cultural exchange intensifies rapidly, and products from all the corners of the earth spread new and exotic customs and conventions.
With more than two hundred objects from the collection of the Museum Angewandte Kunst and loans, this era from the end of the sixteenth to the middle of the seventeenth century will be reconstructed to present an imaginary ocean journey back in time, blending history and fantasy.
Objects from various countries – Ming Dynasty porcelain, ceremonial glasses from Venice, silver goblets of Nuremberg, Persian wine bottles and much more – are united and their histories elicited from them to bring the globalization of our world around the year 1607 back to life.
